Tim's Score:

About:

Edge: Adventures in IP is a game I am playing with Tim Langell. The object of the game it to see how long it takes for me to receive a request from Langdell or a representative on his behalf to take the game down, change its name, or hand over ownership of this IP to Langdell. Scoring begins June 1st, 2009 at midnight, and will last until I receive a request from Langdell to shut down the game because of IP infringement.

For bonus points, Langell will be able to add to his score by dropping frivolous litigation against anyone using the word "Edge" in a way that clearly does not infringe on his IP.

The Idea:

The concept and title of the game came about due to legal threats and potential pending litigation Tim Langdell has launched against Mobigames' iPhone game, Edge (which subsequently had to be removed from Apple's App Store). There is an apparent history of Langdell having an overzealous and self-indulgent claim to the word, including legal threats in January against Cybernet, who made the game Edge of Extinction, as well as being generous enough to license the word "Edge" to the 1997 film starring Alec Baldwin and Anthony Hopkins.

All of this would just be run of the mill dickish manipulation of outdated IP law if it wasn't for the twisted irony is that he is a director for the IGDA. To have a sitting IGDA chair suing developers to the rights to the name of their own game is, quite frankly, a ludicrious insult. Hence, this game.

This Game Sucks!

I know. I did this in one afternoon, and remember - the game up above isn't the point. You aren't playing Edge: The Adventures in IP. Tim Langdell is. If there's enough demand, though, I'll see about making it suck slightly less.

Legal Junk

It should be obvious, but in the off case it isn't - I am in no way affiliated with Tim Langdell, Edge Studios, Edge Games, Edge Magazine, Mobigame, the IGDA, The Independent Gaming Source, or the 1997 production of The Edge starring Alec Baldwin and Anthony Hopkins out now on DVD.
